in a recent blog post (you can read it here), we shared with you the key factors responsible for giving throw pillows a high price tag? Incase you forgot what they are, here's a recap. A Throw pillow's price is dictated by the material and craftsmanship, inserts, and single or double sided design.
So how are these key factors reflected in ready-made and custom designs? Let's take a look:
CUSTOM DESIGNS
Custom throw pillows are the definition of exceptional craftsmanship and quality material. You can not cut corners here and we begin custom designs by sourcing fine Fabrics from quality vendors and using a local workroom to construct each pillow. Time is spent ensuring the pattern is centered on the pillow and that the design’s repeats are aligned at the seams. Our custom pillows also use hidden zippers, which allow easy removal for spot cleaning purposes.
READY- MADE DESIGNS
Most ready-made throw pillows are not made from luxurious fabrics, the zippers are not hidden, and the pattern and seam placement is not as precise. These small details can make a big difference in purchasing price!
CUSTOM DESIGNS
The inserts used in our custom throw pillows (and often used to replace those found in the ready-made options we carry) are composed of 10% down and 90% feathers. This ratio is an economical option, while still keeping the look and feel of down feathers. These hearty fillers pass the “V” chop test and are ideal inserts options to use in throw pillows of any size.
READY- MADE DESIGNS
Pillows purchased from the bigger box stores, use inserts composed of a poly fiber and will break down over time. While they may run less in initial cost, you will find yourself replacing them more often. Poly fiber inserts are not as substantial and will most likely not provide the same full, elevated look you are trying to recreate from your inspiration photo.
CUSTOM DESIGNS
The decision to use a fabric on one or both sides of a pillow ultimately depends on the price of the fabric per yard and how it fits within a budget. If a client loves a fabric, but it exceeds their budget we will suggest a complimentary fabric to use on the back side or a double sided option with similar pattern at a more affordable price.
READY- MADE DESIGNS
As mentioned earlier, throw pillows sold by large retailers are not made from quality fabrics most of the time. The lower cost of fabric per yard, makes double-sided options more feasible and common to find.
